A 24-year-old man from Szomor stole a Cessna 172 aircraft from the Kalocsa airfield on the morning of August 29, 2026. After taking off without authorization, the aircraft flew toward the Paks nuclear power plant, entering a restricted airspace zone.

In response to the unauthorized flight, the Hungarian Air Force scrambled two JAS-39 Gripen fighter jets to intercept and monitor the aircraft. The Cessna performed an emergency landing in a sunflower field near the village of Gerjen, resulting in damage to its landing gear. No injuries were reported during the incident.

Following the landing, the suspect abandoned the aircraft and was seen walking in a confused state along Route 512. When a motorist stopped to offer assistance, the man attempted to steal the driver's vehicle but was prevented by a passenger. Police subsequently apprehended the suspect, who was reportedly intoxicated and claimed to have no memory of the event. He faces charges including the unlawful seizure of an aircraft and robbery.
