The recommended low‑cost cleaning method combines baking soda and household vinegar. Sprinkle baking soda into the overflow, pour vinegar over it, let the reaction work for 10‑15 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with hot water. For regular maintenance, pour boiling water down the overflow weekly and use a thin brush or cotton swab to reach concealed edges. If odors persist, a diluted bleach solution can be applied briefly before a final rinse.
