Hungarian Integrity Authority chief Biró Ferenc Pál indicted on corruption charges

The Central Prosecutor's Office has filed an indictment against Biró Ferenc Pál, president of Hungary’s Integrity Authority, accusing him of embezzlement, abuse of office and related offences. Prosecutors allege that Biró misused a service car, authorized contracts with a Brussels‑based advisory firm and a fictitious premises lease, causing the authority losses exceeding 100 million forints. He is also charged with spending 1.5 million forints from a government‑issued bank card on personal needs and enabling similar misuse by his wife, who incurred additional costs of about 21 million forints. The indictment seeks imprisonment, a monetary fine and the confiscation of 23 million forints of assets allegedly obtained unlawfully. The investigation, which included witness statements and data collection, began in January 2025 and was followed by further inquiries in 2026. Biró has previously claimed political pressure from the government over the case.
