Hungarian journalist András Földes escapes bear attack near Tusnádfürdő

On 25‑26 July 2026, Pulitzer‑memorial award‑winning Hungarian reporter András Földes was attacked by a large brown bear while running near Tusnádfürdő during the Tusványos summer university festival. He shouted, waved his arms and threw his mobile phone at the animal, which recoiled and allowed him to flee toward the village. A local Komondor dog barked and a group of nearby youths armed with sticks helped keep the bear away and later retrieved the phone. Földes escaped without injuries and later recounted the incident on social media, noting that he had earlier conducted interviews with senior Fidesz officials at the event.
