Hungarian-language education faces challenges in Serbia and Romania
Hungarian-language education faces challenges in Serbia and Romania. In Serbia, the Vajdasági Magyar Újrakezdés organization reported that some students in Senta have not received their full sets of free textbooks for the current school year, forcing teachers to photocopy pages to ensure access to materials. Anikó Jerasz, State Secretary at the Ministry of Education, stated that while the minority language program is active, the delivery of missing books to four schools in Senta is currently in progress.
In Romania, the Kolozs County Inspectorate reported on the status of Hungarian-language schooling. Currently, 9,913 children are enrolled in 107 Hungarian-language teaching units within the county. Officials noted that several Hungarian-language kindergarten groups and classes were discontinued for the 2026–2027 school year, and smaller groups currently in operation face the risk of closure in subsequent years. Meanwhile, the Kós Károly Primary School in Körösfő recently completed a 5 million lei renovation project to support the local community.
