Hungarian lawmakers reject hearing Viktor Orbán in pardon inquiry
Hungarian political tensions continue regarding the parliamentary investigative committee examining the pardon scandal. The Tisza Party proposed hearing Viktor Orbán as part of the inquiry, but the motion was rejected by representatives from Fidesz, KDNP, and Mi Hazánk Mozgalom. Mi Hazánk representative Előd Novák characterized the proposal as a political stunt and a delay tactic, suggesting instead that focus remain on the previous hearings of Zoltán Balog and former President Katalin Novák.
Separately, Fidesz faction leader János Bóka stated that the government does not owe an apology for its tenure, rejecting the premise that the Fidesz-KDNP administration has been morally indefensible. Addressing the child protection system, Bóka acknowledged that errors and abuses within the system are serious matters that warrant criticism of the administration, but maintained that the government has taken significant steps toward reform and intends to work constructively with the opposition on these initiatives.
Regarding questions about the wealth of individuals close to the former Prime Minister, Bóka stated he does not concern himself with private business matters and does not consider it his task to explain the accumulation of wealth by others.
