Hungarian legal figures face scrutiny over past writings and ongoing court proceedings

Newly elected Constitutional Court judge Zsolt Szomora has addressed criticisms regarding a 2007 academic paper in which he argued for the decriminalization of incest. Szomora stated that his position was misinterpreted, clarifying that while he viewed the prohibition as a religious-based moral taboo rather than a criminal matter in a liberal legal system, other sections of the Criminal Code must still be used to protect children from intra-family sexual violence.

Separately, Gábor Iványi has responded to a court decision regarding his ongoing legal case involving the National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV). The Pest Central District Court ruled that Iványi and six supporters may testify via remote audio to protect their physical integrity and privacy. Iványi expressed concern over the necessity of this measure, noting that such protocols are typically reserved for minors or victims of sexual crimes, and questioned whether the NAV officials involved remain traumatized by the events of four years ago.
