Hungarian Maltese Charity launches aid drive for Carpathian storm victims

The Hungarian Maltese Charity (Magyar Máltai Szeretetszolgálat) announced a fundraising campaign to support families damaged by a severe storm in the Carpathian region of Hungary. Volunteers, twelve specially trained for emergency response, are deployed in the two hardest‑hit districts, Sarosoroszi and Makkosjánosi, to clear debris, provide mental‑health assistance, assess damage and aid reconstruction.

The storm brought hail, gale‑force winds, toppled trees and utility poles, damaged public and private buildings, shattered roof coverings and agricultural fields, and left some roads temporarily impassable. Power supplies remain intermittent in parts of the Beregszász area. Donations can be made through the charity’s website or by bank transfer to the specified account, with proceeds used locally to purchase building materials at reduced cost.
