Hungarian Media Council candidate nominations advance

The selection process for the Hungarian Media Council continues as the parliamentary cultural committee reviewed new candidates. The committee recommended Beatrix Siklósi, a television and radio professional, and István Boór-Gőblyös, former executive chairman of Magyar Rádió, for consideration. The committee's review focused on the formal aspects of their applications rather than a substantive debate on their qualifications.

This follows previous failed attempts to appoint candidates from Fidesz and KDNP, who failed to secure the necessary two-thirds majority in earlier votes. The political tension surrounding these appointments has been highlighted by KDNP Vice President Csaba Latorcai, who criticized the circumstances of the selection process.

Additionally, a public dispute has emerged between candidate Beatrix Siklósi and politician Márk Radnai. Radnai had criticized the re-nomination of former public media figures, to which Siklósi responded by pointing out Radnai's own past involvement in producing youth programming for public media.
