Hungarian media mogul Balásy Gyula offers companies and Euronews stake to the state
Balásy Gyula, the chief media entrepreneur of NER, told the Kontroll programme that he would make four of his companies – Lounge Design Kft., New Land Media Kft., Lounge Event Kft. and Visual Europe Zrt. – as well as investments in three private‑equity funds and his share in the Euronews TV channel available to the Hungarian government. The funds include more than HUF 14 billion of liquid capital in the Prime Tech fund and a total of HUF 6.5 billion invested in the Prime Peak and Prime Target funds, which focus on public‑space and advertising‑market interests. The details were disclosed after 24.hu obtained a full asset inventory. Prime Minister Peter Magyar said the state would not take up the offer, noting the companies already hold significant reserves, assets, contracts and expertise. The story was also featured in a broader news roundup covering other domestic events.
The offer, while declined, highlights the ongoing discussion about the future of major media assets in Hungary and the government's stance on private‑sector contributions to public infrastructure.
