Hungarian medical union warns budget increases are insufficient
The Association of Hungarian Doctors (MOSZ) has stated that the proposed 2027 budget increases for the healthcare sector are insufficient to resolve systemic issues. While the budget plans to provide an additional 510 billion forints to the sector, MOSZ President Péter Srádi noted that these funds may be consumed by existing hospital debts rather than addressing core problems.
Key concerns raised by the union include the shortage of specialists, the need to maintain general practitioner practices, and the erosion of medical wages due to inflation. Although approximately 192 billion forints are earmarked for wage increases for non-medical staff, the union argues that more sustained funding is required to improve working conditions and address inadequate on-call and surgical supplements.
