Hungarian men's volleyball Extraliga begins with reduced six-team field
The TippmixPro men's volleyball Extraliga begins this Saturday with a reduced field of only six teams. The Hungarian Volleyball Association decided to downsize the league from previous seasons, which featured 12 and 13 participants respectively, to address a significant competitive gap between the top-tier teams and the bottom of the standings.
The participating teams include Kaposvár, MÁV Előr, Pénzügyőr, TFSE, DEAC, and MEAFC. While Kazincbarcika and MAFC earned their spots based on spring performance, financial difficulties led them to register for the second and first divisions instead, allowing DEAC and MEAFC to take their places in the top flight.
Defending champions Kaposvár remain the favorites despite losing Czech hitter Matej Smidlt. They have recruited American player Jacob Steele to fill the role, while head coach Zoran Kedacic remains with the team. Meanwhile, Finó is also preparing for a demanding season, competing in the Hungarian league, the Central European League (KEL), and Champions League qualifiers.
