Hungarian Minister István Kapitány adds missing Balaton villa to asset declaration

Economy and Energy Minister István Kapitány updated his wealth declaration after it was discovered that a 1,524‑square‑metre plot in Balaton‑Györök and the 209‑square‑metre building on it were omitted. The updated filing shows the minister holds usufruct rights over the land and is listed as the owner of the house. The declaration also confirms his ownership of multiple other properties, a Maserati vehicle and investments worth roughly 6 billion forints.

The correction comes as Hungary prepares a new EU‑backed law that would give the Integrity Authority power to audit declarations and impose penalties, including up to two years’ imprisonment, for false or incomplete reporting.
