Hungarian Minister Tarr orders audit of diaspora aid and probes Orbán János Dénes royalty purchase

Hungarian Minister Zoltán Tarr announced a ten‑year retrospective audit of state support for Hungarian media and cultural organisations abroad, saying the review will identify any illegal use of public funds and recover misused amounts. He stressed that future funding will be granted only on a transparent, professional basis and will not be tied to political loyalty.

At the same time, the Ministry of Culture reported that a complaint has been filed over a 1.3 billion‑forint deal in which the nonprofit Kárpát‑medencei Tehetséggondozó Nonprofit Kft. purchased royalty rights from former professional leader Orbán János Dénes for more than 400 million forints. The purchase, approved by the Budapest Operetta Theatre, is being investigated as possible misconduct and breach of fiduciary duty.

Both developments reflect a broader push by the Hungarian government to tighten oversight of funding and address alleged financial irregularities in cultural projects.
