Hungarian ministers file reports over suspected subsidy and insolvency crimes

Hungarian government ministers have filed multiple reports with the National Tax and Customs Administration regarding suspected financial misconduct and misuse of public funds.

Viktória Lőrincz, Minister of Rural and Settlement Development, reported a case involving a 1.8 billion forint non-refundable subsidy granted to Veszprém-Balaton 2023 Zrt. The ministry alleges that at the time the subsidy was issued, a state secretary from the ministry served as the CEO of the beneficiary company. The report includes suspicions of budgetary fraud, breach of trust, and abuse of office.

Separately, Dávid Vitézy, Minister of Transport and Investments, filed a report regarding suspected insolvency crimes at Dunakeszi Járműjavító. The investigation follows the company's insolvency, during which significant dividend payments were made to owners despite the firm's eventual inability to pay debts. The plant's operational issues previously halted maintenance for MÁV InterCity cars and manufacturing for Egyptian railway orders. The company has since returned to state ownership and is being managed by MÁV.
