Hungarian Ministry recalls diplomat appointed without language certification

The Hungarian Ministry of Finance has recalled Ágnes Nosztics, the former chief of staff to former Minister of National Economy Márton Nagy, following revelations regarding her diplomatic appointment in Singapore.

According to the Ministry, Nosztics was appointed to a four-year diplomatic position via an undisclosed government decision. While professional experience and language skills were key criteria, the Ministry confirmed that Nosztics was granted a one-year grace period by ministerial decision to meet the required language proficiency standards.

An internal investigation is currently underway. The Ministry, acting as the successor to the Ministry of National Economy, initiated the immediate recall through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. This follows allegations by State Secretary Nikoletta Boda, who claimed a diplomatic post was created for a direct staff member during Nagy’s tenure, valued at approximately 200 million forints over four years.
