Hungarian minority rights and 1956 anniversary commemorations

At the Cluj-Napoca Hungarian Days, a roundtable discussion marked the 50th anniversary of the Hungarian Human Rights Foundation (HHRF). The organization, which began with efforts to advocate for the rights of Hungarians in Transylvania, has evolved from anti-communist activism to representing minority interests in Washington and Brussels.

Participants, including Zsolt Szekeres of the HHRF and Hunor Kelemen of the RMDSZ, discussed ongoing challenges regarding minority rights, such as language use, church restitution, and community rights. The discussion highlighted how the foundation's mission has shifted over five decades while continuing to address unresolved issues for the Hungarian community in Romania.

In a separate development, Péter Magyar has called upon large corporations and international companies operating in Hungary to support the state celebrations for the 70th anniversary of the October 23, 1956, Revolution. He emphasized the importance of corporate social responsibility, suggesting that the commemoration should be a collective national effort rather than being funded solely by taxpayers.
