Hungarian MP faces calls to resign over voting irregularity

Hungarian Fidesz and Mi Hazánk politicians are calling for the resignation of Tisza Party MP Orsolya Schummer following an incident during a parliamentary vote for the Media Council. Video footage appears to show Schummer pressing the voting button for her colleague, Erzsébet Csézy, during the selection of candidates.

Fidesz parliamentary leader János Bóka has formally requested that Speaker Ágnes Forsthoffer convene the House Committee to investigate the matter. Bóka stated that by altering a colleague's vote, Schummer has violated parliamentary rules and rendered herself unfit to participate in legislative work. Mi Hazánk also demanded her resignation, citing the importance of maintaining the dignity of the National Assembly.

Erzsébet Csézy responded to the allegations by stating that the action was a request for assistance and that the resulting vote aligned with her will. Schummer described the incident on social media as providing ‘technical assistance’ during the voting process.
