Hungarian MP Novák Előd proposes softer penalties for vaccine refusal

Member of Parliament Novák Előd of the Mi Hazánk party submitted a draft law that would lower the fines imposed on parents who refuse mandatory vaccinations for their children. He argues that unlimited penalties could lead to "existential destruction" of families and proposes capping fines at 100,000 forints, prohibiting repeated fines, and allowing authorities to waive or reduce penalties in exceptional cases.

Előd also called on the government to develop, by 30 September, a legal framework to rehabilitate people who lost their jobs because they refused the COVID‑19 vaccine. The proposal would let affected individuals seek reinstatement to their former positions and claim compensation for the losses they suffered.
