Hungarian National Film Institute Board Dismissed, Reform Begins

The governing board of Hungary's National Film Institute, including board chairman Csaba Káel, has been removed. A temporary board will oversee the institute until a new leadership is selected through a competitive application process. The authorities have announced a review of the institute’s operations, aiming to limit decisions to only essential daily matters during the transition and to launch a broader film‑industry reform.

The move is presented as the start of a “film reform” intended to address longstanding issues within the sector.
