Hungarian National Museum displays historic weapons from Habsburg collection and Xántus's Henry rifle

The Hungarian National Museum opened the exhibition “American Dream – Hungarians in the United States 1776–2026”, featuring a range of historic firearms. Among them is a famous Henry repeating rifle that belonged to 19th‑century naturalist and explorer János Xántus; the weapon, used by Xántus during the American Civil War, was recovered in Gödöllő after more than a hundred years of disappearance.

The exhibition also includes Hungarian‑related items from the Habsburgs' Hofjagd‑und‑Rüstkammer collection, traditionally housed in Vienna’s Weltmuseum and the Ambras Castle in Innsbruck. These pieces highlight weapons and armour connected to the anti‑Ottoman wars fought on Hungarian soil, illustrating the legacy of the Habsburg imperial armaments.
