Hungarian National Museum exhibition marks US 250th anniversary

The Hungarian National Museum opened a temporary exhibition titled “The American Dream – Hungarians in the United States 1776‑2026.” The show commemorates the United States’ 250th independence anniversary and explores how hundreds of thousands of Hungarians pursued freedom, prosperity and happiness in America over the past two and a half centuries. Artifacts on display include a cigarette case belonging to actress Katalin Karády, a rifle used by zoologist János Xantus during the Civil War, memorabilia of 19th‑century statesman Lajos Kossuth and a basketball jersey of former NBA player Kornél Dávid. Museum director‑general Gábor Zsigmond, state secretary for public collections Sári Zsolt, and U.S. Embassy charge d’affaires Caroline Savage all spoke at the opening, noting the shared history and mutual contributions of Hungarians to American culture, science and industry. The exhibition runs through 1 November, offering visitors insight into personal stories that link the two nations.

The event highlights the longstanding cultural ties between Hungary and the United States and serves as a platform for celebrating both countries’ historical milestones.
