Hungarian NER-linked companies begin selective sports sponsorship cuts
Major companies linked to the Hungarian government-aligned business circle (NER) are beginning to selectively review and reduce their sports sponsorships. While these entities have not withdrawn from Hungarian sports entirely, recent shifts suggest a move toward more selective funding rather than the broad support seen in previous years.
Notable changes include Duna Aszfalt, an interest of László Szíjj, ending its support for Puskás Akadémia. Additionally, Mészáros Zrt. has ceased being a primary supporter of NK Osijek, and Hell has not extended its previous level of support for the DVTK football team.
Despite these reductions, many clubs maintain significant backing. For instance, Puskás Akadémia continues to have 29 sponsors following the departure of Duna Aszfalt, 18 of whom are linked to the business interests of Lőrinc Mészáros. Analysts suggest this trend could potentially push clubs toward more market-based operational models.
