Hungarian newspaper Népszava ends print edition amid contract dispute with Mediaworks

Former deputy editor‑in‑chief Hargitai Miklós announced that the daily Népszava has terminated its contract with the Mediaworks printing and distribution group, resulting in the Friday edition not being printed. The newspaper had accrued significant debts to the Mediaworks-owned press and distributor, and Hargitai claims the government created an artificial crisis by imposing discriminatory pricing and monopolising the printing market.

Hargitai alleges that both right‑wing and left‑wing forces have attempted to exert pressure on the paper, which he documented. He also links the case to broader controversies, noting that Népszava previously reported on alleged corruption involving the Orbán family’s Microsoft licence deals and a disputed invention claimed by Rogán Antal.
