Hungarian NKFH pulls male‑enhancement supplements containing prescription drugs
On July 28, 2024, Hungary's National Trade and Consumer Protection Authority (NKFH) announced the recall of several dietary supplements marketed as male‑enhancement products. Laboratory analysis found that the products – MOON, Gold Power Strong and Maraton Plus Rapid – contained active pharmaceutical ingredients used in prescription medicines, specifically the PDE‑5 inhibitors sildenafil and tadalafil, and in two cases diclofenac. These substances can cause serious health risks, especially when taken with nitrates or by individuals with certain cardiovascular conditions. NKFH warned consumers that labels such as “natural”, “herbal” or “dietary supplement” do not guarantee safety, removed the items from retail shelves and said further regulatory measures will be taken.
