Hungarian officials accuse MP Előd Novák of inciting minorities

Hungarian parliamentary state secretary Bence Csontos has accused Mi Hazánk Mozgalom MP Előd Novák of inciting hatred against minorities following a dispute regarding singer Ajsa Luna.

The controversy stems from Luna’s performance during a state holiday on August 20, organized by the previous Fidesz government. During the event, Luna sang a portion of the Hungarian national anthem while sitting down and holding a cigarette. Novák filed a written inquiry seeking details on the singer’s compensation, the payment date, and whether the current Tisza government intends to reclaim the funds. He also criticized the police for rejecting his complaint regarding the perceived desecration of the national anthem.

In response, Csontos stated that Novák is not addressing potential criminal orders from the previous administration but is instead using his “usual inimitable style to incite against various minorities.” Csontos noted that ministries are currently auditing contracts from the previous government, with over 100 billion forints already identified in cases involving suspected wasteful spending.
