Hungarian Operetta Day celebrated with gala in Budapest
The Budapest Operetta Theatre hosted a large-scale gala to celebrate Hungarian Operetta Day, an occasion observed annually on October 24 to mark the birthday of Imre Kálmán and the anniversary of Ferenc Lehár’s death.
The event, titled ‘Álom, álom, édes álom’, featured performances of classic melodies and included a scripted dialogue between the two legendary composers. Professional awards were presented during the ceremony, including Musical Performer of the Year to Tamás Földes and Operetta Performer of the Year to Zoltán Kiss. Mónika Lipics received the Marshall baton for young talents.
The celebration also honored long-standing figures of the genre, such as Marika Oszvald, who has been active on stage for over fifty years.
