Hungarian Photographer Berecz András Debuts ‘Secrets of Bells’ Exhibit
Berecz András, known in Hungary as a folk‑song singer, storyteller and dialect researcher, opened a solo photography exhibition at the Műcsarnok in Budapest. The show, titled “Secrets of Bells,” features close‑up images of historic church bells, revealing the wear patterns, colours and shapes that record centuries of ringing, wars and celebrations. Berecz explains that the marks inside each bell act as a visual archive of communal joy and loss, ranging from Ottoman occupation to modern times. The photographs are presented as time capsules, with the oxidised bronze surfaces forming abstract landscapes that he likens to “the ring of history.”
