Hungarian police dismantle international drug courier networks

The Bács‑Kiskun County Police Chief’s Office broke up a large marijuana‑smuggling operation that used courier services to bring shipments from Spain to the Kecskemét area. Police seized more than 13 kg of cannabis in two parcels, alongside heroin, cocaine, MDMA, cash, luxury watches, gold bars and two high‑value cars. Nine suspects, including a husband‑wife duo who ran the network, were questioned; the ringleader remains in custody.

In a separate coordinated action, the National Counter‑Terrorism Centre’s Drug Crime Division (KR NNI) targeted a network that recruited Hungarian couriers to swallow cocaine capsules. The group is believed to have moved about 42 kg of cocaine from Hungary into Western Europe and then onward to destinations such as Martinique, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan and Australia, following instructions from a Nigerian criminal organization. Six couriers were arrested in Hungary, nine more were detained abroad, and warrants were issued for additional suspects. The operation uncovered more than 15 kg of cocaine and highlighted the use of international courier services for drug trafficking.
