Hungarian police investigate companies owned by György Orbán

Budapest police have launched an investigation into potential abuse of power involving companies owned by György Orbán, the father of former Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. The probe focuses on whether Dolomit Kft., a company owned by György Orbán, sold construction materials to V-Híd Zrt. at inflated prices during the expansion of the M1 motorway.

Reports suggest that some materials may have been sold at nearly double the market rate. V-Híd Zrt. is part of a business group linked to Lőrinc Mészáros. The construction project is managed by MKIF Magyar Koncessziós Infrastruktúra Fejlesztő Zrt., a state-concessionaire also reportedly connected to Mészáros and Lőrinc Siértó.

Transparency International Hungary requested the investigation, noting that while price inflation cannot be confirmed without auditing invoices, any use of state funds to purchase materials above market value could constitute damage to state property. The M1 motorway expansion is funded by significant state resources allocated for road infrastructure development.
