Hungarian police warn of email phishing scams posing as traffic fines

The Budapest Police Headquarters alerted the public to a new wave of phishing attacks that use e‑mail messages rather than SMS to claim the recipient has been fined for using a mobile phone while driving. The messages appear to come from a made‑up "Magyar Országos Központ" and are signed with a misspelled "Országos Rendőr‑főkapitányság". Recipients are urged to click a link, provide a license‑plate number and enter card details on a counterfeit payment page, allowing criminals to steal banking information. Police emphasized that the cited authority does not exist, warned against clicking suspicious links, and advised verifying any fine through official channels before responding.
