Hungarian political disputes over Eger municipal spending and Paks nuclear plant management
In Eger, municipal representative Dániel Domán has criticized Mayor Ákos Vágner regarding the staffing and costs of the mayor's cabinet. Based on released data, the cabinet employs 14 people with annual gross salaries exceeding 130 million forints. Domán highlighted discrepancies between the city's claims of financial hardship for infrastructure projects and the high expenditures on the mayor's immediate staff, noting that four press officers alone cost over 36 million forints annually.
In national politics, KDNP faction leader Bence Rétvári addressed tensions regarding the Paks nuclear power plant. Rétvári emphasized the need for national unity during difficult times, while criticizing the opposition for failing to adopt expert suggestions earlier. He argued that the government's focus on the Paks works is being undermined by political attacks, and suggested that if opposition proposals had been implemented sooner, the current issues regarding the plant's operation and international regulatory concerns might have been mitigated.
