Hungarian President Agnes Forsthoffer declines chair of National Memorial Foundation board

Hungarian President (House Speaker) Agnes Forsthoffer has refused to assume the chairmanship of the National Memorial Foundation (Nemzeti Emlékhely Közalapítvány) Board, a position traditionally held by the speaker of the National Assembly since the foundation’s inception in 1991.

Székesfehérvár Mayor András Cser‑Palkovics, who also serves as vice‑chair of the foundation, posted on Facebook that the invitation was sent and that the foundation respects Forsthoffer’s decision. He wrote that “we accept the President‑in‑Office’s decision” and that the opportunity will remain open should her duties in the future allow her to take the role. Cser‑Palkovics emphasized the foundation’s significance for Székesfehérvár and for the nation’s historic heritage.
