Hungarian President rejects military general appointment

The Hungarian President's office, Sándor Palace, has rejected the proposal to appoint Attila Szuvák as a brigadier general. Szuvák currently serves as the deputy director of the Military National Security Service (KNBSZ).

The rejection follows reports of internal dissatisfaction within the organization regarding Szuvák's potential leadership. Sources indicate that Szuvák, who retired as a colonel in 2023 after 11 years of service, has faced professional scrutiny. His previous tenure as a defense attaché in Algeria, where he was also accredited to Tunisia, ended prematurely after less than three years. Reports suggest his repatriation may have been requested by ambassadors following a disciplinary incident involving unauthorized searches in the Algerian ambassador's office.

Following that incident, Szuvák was reportedly assigned to a lower-level position within the KNBSZ. The President's office stated that the Ministry of Defense submitted the promotion proposal on July 27, 2026, and returned the documents to the ministry four days later without further action.
