Hungarian Prime Minister's Office denies access to cabinet meeting records
The Hungarian Prime Minister's Office has denied requests for public access to the minutes and summaries of cabinet meetings held by Péter Magyar’s government since its formation in May 2026. Citing a 2018 law passed during the Orbán administration, the office stated that government meetings remain non-public unless the Prime Minister provides otherwise.
This decision has drawn criticism regarding transparency, particularly as the current administration previously released documentation from the former Orbán government's meetings. While social media posts and spokesperson briefings provide some insight into long, sometimes overnight sessions, the specific agendas, debates, and arguments surrounding decisions remain inaccessible to the public. Critics note that without access to these documents, it is difficult to track internal conflicts, budget disputes, or the reasoning behind significant policy shifts.
