Hungarian Public Service Council Calls for Nominations to Independent Media Board

The Hungarian Public Service Council (Közszolgálati Tanács) posted a call on its website inviting media‑professional organisations to submit nominations for the Independent Media Board (Független Közmédia Testület). The board will be responsible for exercising ownership rights over public media. One third of the board’s members will be nominated by governing parties, one third by opposition parties, and the remaining third will consist of media‑professional candidates selected through the council’s procedure. Nominations must be submitted within ten days of the announcement, by 11 August. The council also invited child‑protection and legal‑rights groups and public‑media trade unions to take part in the process and will forward three candidate proposals to the Cultural Committee of the Hungarian Parliament (Országgyűlés).
