Hungarian rescue teams save swimmers and retrieve barbed wire at Lake Balaton
The Hungarian Water Rescue Service’s emergency boat Alpha responded to incidents at Lake Balaton. A non‑swimmer was rescued after her husband alerted rescuers; she was unharmed but exhausted. A 14‑year‑old boy who had gone missing was found about one kilometre from shore and returned safely to his family.
Divers used a metal detector to locate and remove roughly half a bucket of barbed wire from a beach area. Rescue personnel also treated minor ailments, including a diabetic patient, a choking complaint and other minor injuries. Over the weekend, water rescuers attended to 163 light injuries on the shore and rescued one person from the water.
