Hungarian state increases ownership in Mol and Richter
The Hungarian state has significantly increased its ownership and voting rights in two major companies, Mol Nyrt. and Richter Gedeon Nyrt., following the dissolution of certain public interest asset management foundations (KEKVs).
In Mol Nyrt., the state's voting rights rose from 8 votes to over 124 million, representing a 15.24 percent stake. This increase resulted from shares previously held by the Mol-Új Európa Alapítvány and the Mathias Corvinus Collegium (MCC) transferring to the state. The resolution of these foundation-related holdings has cleared the path for Mol to proceed with its dividend payments.
Similarly, the state's stake in the pharmaceutical company Richter Gedeon increased to 10 percent after the MCC transferred all its Richter shares to the state on August 31. This ownership shift is expected to provide significant dividend income to the national budget, with Richter projected to pay 120 billion forints in dividends from its 2025 results, of which the state's share is estimated at 12 billion forints. Mol is also set to distribute 241.2 billion forints in dividends from its 2025 results.
