Hungarian State Opera to host Kodály concert marking 1956 anniversary
The Hungarian State Opera is hosting the ‘1956/70 – Festive Kodály Concert’ to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the 1956 Revolution and the centenary of the premiere of Zoltán Kodály’s opera, Háry János.
The program features iconic works including Psalmus Hungaricus, the Háry János suite, and ballet music from the Dragon Dance. The concert also highlights Kodály’s connection to the institution, where he served as a posthumous permanent member and conducted on multiple occasions.
During the event, the Europa Nostra Award will be presented in recognition of the extensive reconstruction of the Ybl Palace. To further celebrate the centenary of Háry János, the opera will present several performances of the work directed by Attila Béres throughout October.
