Hungarian stock market and investment trends analysis
An analysis of investment performance over the last five years shows significant variations across different asset classes in Hungary. According to K&H Értékpapír, the Hungarian stock market led the group, with the BUX index increasing by 187 percent, potentially turning 1 million forints into nearly 3 million. Gold also saw substantial growth of 160.8 percent, driven by high inflation, central bank demand, and geopolitical uncertainty.
Other notable performers included the US S&P 500, which rose 94.2 percent when measured in forints. While all examined assets outperformed inflation in nominal terms, analysts note that past performance does not guarantee future results and emphasize the varying levels of risk and volatility associated with each category.
In recent market activity, the Budapest Stock Exchange (BÉT) showed signs of a slight decline. The BUX index closed down 1.65 percent at 2374.48 points. Specific stock movements included a 3.79 percent drop in OTP Bank shares and a 1.24 percent decrease in Magyar Telekom, while Richter shares saw a modest increase of 1.05 percent.
