Hungarian Teachers' Union PDSZ Calls for Salary Overhaul

The Democratic Teachers' Union (PDSZ) released results of its KÖR‑kép survey showing that Hungarian educators seek more than higher wages. They demand a predictable salary system that rewards professional experience and qualifications, automatic payment for overtime and substitute work, and the inclusion of non‑teaching staff (NOKS workers) in salary reforms. The union also calls for the re‑introduction of a cafeteria system and a review of existing supplements.

PDSZ noted that teachers received a 10 % salary increase in January, with retroactive payments to be made in August. Union leaders are pressing the Ministry of Education and Child Welfare for negotiations; Education Minister Judit Lannert said the government will examine the budgetary possibilities. PSZ deputy Tóth Tünde highlighted that many NOKS employees currently earn very low net wages, underscoring the need for broader pay adjustments.
