Hungarian theatre announces new season and NEXUS festival
The Hungarian theatre scene is preparing for new seasonal activities, including the opening of the 6SZÍN 2026/2027 season and the NEXUS International Theatre Festival in Békéscsaba.
6SZÍN launched its new season on September 1, honoring the memory of Márton Karinthy. The independent theatre, which has hosted over 300,000 spectators in the last six years without external support, recently held an awards ceremony. Notable winners included Parti Nóra for Best Actress, Kerekes József for Best Actor, and Lengyel Andorn for Best Director. Upcoming productions include Erich Kästner’s ‘The Two Lottis’ in October.
Meanwhile, the Jókai Theatre in Békéscsaba will host the NEXUS International Theatre Festival from September 10 to 12. Supported by the National Cultural Fund (NKA), the festival features productions from Hungarian companies located across borders, including troupes from Arad, Temesvár, and Nagyvárad. The event includes various performances, professional workshops, exhibitions, and a closing awards ceremony.
