Hungarian Transport Minister Vitézy Dávid Announces EU Funding Details

Hungary’s government held a 10 a.m. press briefing attended by three government spokespeople—Szondi Vanda, Magyar Éva and Köböl Anita—and, for the first time, transport and investment minister Vitézy Dávid.

Vitézy outlined that the European Union has allocated €16.4 billion to Hungary, with the largest share being €10 billion from the Recovery and Resilience Facility aimed at mitigating the post‑COVID economic shock. He noted that most EU member states have already drawn down their allocations, while Hungary previously missed deadlines due to corruption concerns. The current administration has renegotiated the plan and will submit a law next week for parliamentary approval, aiming to meet the “super‑milestone” conditions required to unlock the funds before the August 31 deadline. The briefing emphasized that the money will finance development projects that will be felt by Hungarian citizens.
