Hungarian Transport Minister Vitézy Dávid Orders Complete Overhaul of MÁV Board

Transport and Infrastructure Minister Vitézy Dávid announced a total replacement of the board of Hungary's state railway company MÁV. Five board members – Barna Zsolt, Bethlen Miklós, Deák Tibor, Ratatics Péter and Wáberer György – resigned, and the minister dismissed board chairman Lepsényi István along with member Parragh László. The overhaul is presented as the first step in a broader plan to modernise and upgrade the national rail system, including infrastructure upgrades, fleet renewal and the creation of new organisational units.

Vitézy highlighted that the rail sector is a priority for the government and will benefit from significant EU funding, estimated at around 2 trillion forints. The ministry will soon appoint new board members, while the operational leadership, including CEO Hegyi Zsolt, remains in place.

The changes are intended to improve service reliability, modernise the rolling stock, and align MÁV with 21st‑century standards, addressing longstanding issues such as timetable management and infrastructure condition.
