Hungarian Transport Minister Vitézy Dávid Restarts Budakeszi Road and Hajmáskér‑Lepsény Railway Projects

Transport Minister Vitézy Dávid announced the revival of the Budakeszi út road scheme in Budapest, which will add bus lanes and replace underground drainage and water mains. The project, previously stalled, is now back in the preparation stage with an expected half‑year to complete permits and utility agreements, though construction will span several years and cause temporary traffic disruptions.

In a separate request, the civil group Szabad a Hang asked Vitézy to restart passenger service on the 27‑kilometre Hajmáskér–Lepsény rail line. Reopening the line would create a north‑south rail link between the Bakony region, Veszprém and the southern shore of Lake Balaton, boosting tourism and commuter options. The ministry plans a procurement round in 2026, with design contracts by year‑end and detailed planning through 2027‑2029, aiming for initial works by 2030.
