Hungarian travel and festival preferences show shifting trends
Recent surveys highlight evolving travel and leisure habits among Hungarians. According to research by ITAKA Hungary, 41 percent of Hungarians still prefer seaside vacations, though the concept of ‘last minute’ travel has shifted. Rather than waiting for the absolute final moment to find discounts, travelers are increasingly prioritizing flexibility and quick, informed decision-making to secure the best value. While price remains the primary factor for 69 percent of respondents, accommodation quality and safety are also significant considerations. Turkey remains a top destination, while Albania is seeing notable growth in popularity.
Regarding domestic leisure, data from Csodásmagyarország.hu indicates that half of the Hungarian population attends one or two festivals annually. Two-thirds of respondents are willing to travel several hours within the country for a preferred program. Pop music festivals (20 percent) and gastronomic events (15 percent) are the most popular categories. When choosing an event, participants prioritize the lineup of performers (24 percent) and ticket prices (16 percent). Most festival-goers also combine their attendance with other activities, such as sightseeing, visiting local attractions, or nature excursions.
