Hungarian ultrarunner Bódis Tamás third at Badwater 135 in Death Valley

Bódis Tamás, a 37‑year‑old Hungarian long‑distance runner, completed the 217‑kilometre Badwater 135 ultramarathon in 21 hours 34 minutes 47 seconds, securing third place. His performance set a new best Hungarian time on the notoriously hot desert course.

The race, running from the Badwater Basin below sea level to the Whitney Portal at 2,530 m, challenges participants with 4,450 m of elevation gain and daytime temperatures often exceeding 45‑50 °C, with asphalt surface temperatures reaching up to 90 °C. Bódis prepared with a two‑week acclimatization period in California, training in extreme heat and overcoming logistical issues such as missing gear.

His achievement follows a distinguished ultrarunning résumé that includes three Ultrabalaton victories and strong showings at other international events, underscoring Hungary’s growing presence in the sport.
