Hungarian women's basketball team defeats Nigeria at World Cup
The Hungarian women's national basketball team has secured a vital victory at the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup in Berlin. After a difficult opening match where they suffered a 99-53 loss to Olympic silver medalists France, the team rebounded to defeat Nigeria 71-67.
Led by Dorka Juhász, who scored 19 points, and Virág Takács-Kiss with 17 points, Hungary maintained a strong lead throughout much of the game. Despite a chaotic final period where Nigeria narrowed the gap, Hungary managed to secure the win, placing them in a strong position to advance from Group B.
Head coach Péter Völgyi and players noted the team's resilience in recovering from the heavy opening defeat. The team's next scheduled match in the group stage is against South Korea.
