Hungarian women's basketball team secures first World Championship win since 1998

The Hungarian women's national basketball team has made a notable start at the World Championship in Berlin, marking their first appearance in the tournament in 28 years. After a heavy 99–53 defeat against France in their opening match, the team secured a 71–67 victory over Nigeria. This win represents Hungary's first World Championship victory since 1998. Key contributors in the win against Nigeria included Dorka Juhász with 19 points, Virág Takács-Kiss with 17, and Réka Lelik with 14.

Veteran center Judit Széki-Barnai, aged 32, has been recalled to the 12-person squad by head coach Péter Völgyi after a four-year absence. Széki-Barnai, the oldest member of the roster, expressed her excitement about participating in the tournament in Berlin.
