Hungary adopts constitutional amendment blocking Hadházy and others from parliament

The Hungarian Parliament approved a constitutional amendment that bars any MP who has been elected in at least three parliamentary terms from standing again. The change directly affects former MP Hadházy Ákos, who served from 2016 to 2026 across three cycles, as well as Szél Bernadett and other long‑serving legislators such as Hollik István and Gurmai Zita.

Hadházy denounced the measure as a “personalised modification,” arguing it targets only a handful of politicians and could foster corruption rather than strengthen democracy. He called for a broader electoral reform, stating that fair competition and transparent voting conditions are the real solution to improving representation.
